Dems Snub Moderates; Embrace Lunatics

The best thing a moderate Democrat can do this election is vote Republican.

(
Washington Post) The story line almost writes itself: Democratic president candidates snub centrists but plan to court liberal bloggers. Another sign of the party's leftward drift?

In the past two years, the Democratic Leadership Council's (DLC's) annual summer meeting has been a Mecca for would-be candidates. Two years ago, Hillary Clinton was there along with three Democrats who have since fallen by the wayside: Evan Bayh, Mark Warner and Tom Vilsack. Last year in Denver, Clinton among others was there again.

Today, none of the presidential candidates will be in Nashville to address the group that helped redefine the Democratic Party in the late '80s and early '90s... but a number of them have found time later this week to address the second convention in Chicago.

Most Americans, be they Republican or Democrat, are looking for real, common sense leadership. It seems, at least to me, that the Democratic Party has abandoned that basic principle for the more politically expedient, hate-rhetoric.

And that’s the main reason why the Dems have sunk the congressional poll ratings to record lows. The American people voted to oust the Republican leadership because they believed the Democratic Party would bring the country together to move forward with a real plan of action. Of course, those of us who know better, understood that the Democrats never had an actual plan for any major problems... other than to blame, in the most ridiculous fashion, President Bush. It took a while, but the average American voter has finally caught on to that fact.

Most Independents, I believe, look at the two parties and say to themselves: I’m not really happy with republican leadership... but I’m sure as hell NOT voting for that Democrat. And I can tell you, with absolute certainty, that if the major Democratic presidential candidates attend the Yearly Kos Convention, to pander to the most vile and hateful wing of their party, they will doom their hopes at retaking the White House.

They have alienated common sense and have embraced the worst type of political activism. -what they think they can do, after they are nominated, is to just re-center themselves politically. But that ain’t gonna happen. Once you descend to the fever swamps of the lunatic fringe, you can’t reposition yourself as a moderate.
